Camillus Is A Small Town With A Big Personality

Camillus is a small town of 24,167 people, located near Syracuse, New York. Joseph Sherwood was the first pioneer to arrive in the area in 1795. By 1799 the village of Camillus was formed out of the land from nearby Marcellus. Although it was only a small town, Camillus quickly grew thanks to the Erie Canal building and the fact that it was on the rail route between New York and Auburn.

From Axe Throwing to Movies, There Is Something For Everyone

One thing visitors to Camillus are sure to love is the range of things to see and do. For such a small town, Camillus is not short on entertainment. The town is home to many volunteer and civic organizations. You will find five golf courses, numerous shops and eateries, miles of parks and trails, a skate park, a community splash pad, and a senior center within its bounds. If you are looking for something sort of different to do, why not visit:

  • Deep Stop Scuba for all your scuba diving needs. They have classes for all ability levels, and you can take courses that focus on specific skills, too, such as ice diving. Their well-stocked shop covers all your diving needs, and they can also carry out repairs on your equipment.
  • Bad Axe Throwing, where you can unleash your inner Viking and learn a fascinating new skill! Ax throwing is ideal for families, friend groups, and work teams. You will be paired with a knowledgeable instructor who will help you learn the art of ax throwing.
  • Marcus Movie Tavern is the place to be if you want to enjoy good food and good movies at the same time. Relax in the comfy recliner chairs and choose from their delicious food menu for a luxury movie-going experience you will not forget.
  • Martisco Station Railway Museum offers you a step back in time. The museum is housed in the original station buildings, on the route between Syracuse and Auburn. Explore the exhibits and learn about a vital part of the area's history.

Enjoy Acres Of Natural Beauty

If you are looking for some much needed fresh air and exercise, Camillus has plenty to offer. The town boasts over 500 acres of parkland, which is impressive for a town of its size.

One of the most popular parks is the Erie Canal Park and Sims Store Museum. Locals worked together to turn this abandoned part of the historic Erie Canal into a delightful haven. The park is available all year round for hiking, jogging, fishing, boating, and cross-country skiing, and you can also take a narrated boat tour. In winter you can go snowmobiling. If you visit in summer, you can book a spectacular dinner cruise along the old canal, where you will enjoy a fresh menu prepared by the local restaurant, Ernie's of Lakeland. Luncheon cruises are also available.

Erie Canal Park is educational as well as beautiful. The Sims Store Museum carefully replicates the original Sims Store that stood nearby in 1860. The original store sold:

  • Food and water
  • Fuels like coal and kerosene
  • Groceries and animal feed
  • Medicines
  • Hardware

The original store was in a prime position near Gere Lock, where the owner John Sim profited from the fact that boats had to stop at the lock before sailing on. Park visitors can see what the store would have looked like and learn about its role in Erie Canal history.

SERVPRO Is Here To Help With Water Cleanup – Even During Record-Breaking Storms

Halloween 2019 saw record rainfall in upstate New York. Winds of 60 mph knocked out power lines, while the rain caused flooding that ran over roads and into homes. The winds were high enough to whip up water from Lake Erie and cause further flooding.

In floods such as these, there is a need for rapid water cleanup. Water that is not dealt with can soak into furniture, textiles, and even insulation and floorboards, causing damage. Wet conditions also raise the risk of mold growth.

We Are Faster To Any Size Disaster. We equip our teams with state of the art equipment, including thermo hygrometers, moisture probes, air movers, and dehumidifiers to deal with water cleanup. We carefully plan and monitor every stage of water evacuation and drying to ensure the best results.

We also take care of contents cleaning. Our team will use hydraulic cleaning, spot cleaning, and Esporta washers to clean everything from clothes to kitchen utensils and toys. When we have finished drying your home, we will deodorize it to eliminate any lingering damp smells.

If you need a reliable water cleanup service, SERVPRO of SW Onondaga County is here for you. Call us at (315) 488-3900.
